IBB & Buharia in a relaxed mood
The news of a possible probe
of Ibrahim Babangida by the President Mohamadu Buhari’s led APC government
surfaced in some media yesterday. IBB as popularly known is the man behind the
coup that toppled Buhari/Idiagbon led military regime in 1984. To many this is good
news considering the fact that many Nigerians believed that the IBB led military
government was one of the most corrupt government in the history of Nigeria,
and so revisiting his time in office with special attention to how money was
appropriated is something cheering.
While this news may be cheering
to most Nigerians, there are others however who are wondering if the president
is just doing his job of fighting corruption like he promised to do or is he on
a personal vendetta, could it just be a mere coincidence that those who have
been at the receiving end of the president Buhari’s campaign against corruption
are somehow considered his enemies?
Just months after coming into
office the president went after the former security adviser to the man that
handed over to him for misappropriating funds that was meant to purchase weapons
for the fight against the Islamic terrorists group, Boko Haram. This would have looked and sounded normal
except that the man in question was none other than the officer who led the
arrest of our dear president Muhamadu Buhari in the 1984 coup marshaled by General
Ibrahim Babangida to topple the Buhari/Idiagbon government.
Put this alongside the faith of
the likes of Orubebe, the man who almost thwarted the result of the election
that brought president Buhari to office, Olise Metu, the outspoken former PDP spokesman fingered also in the Dasukigate,
High Chief Raymond Dopkesi, the man whose media platform AIT was used by PDP to air
some not too good clips of the presidents past, the list goes on. All these men
including Dasuki and now IBB have one thing in common, and that is their past
sin with the present commander in chief who may have just decided to show them, who’s the
man?
Whatever maybe the faith of IBB and co,
Nigerians are watching and prayerfully hoping that the outcome of a possible
probe of the man once considered evil genius or Maradona would bring something
tangible to the table and possibly help turn around our ailing economy for the
good of all, whether it’s borne out of
personal vendetta or sincere fight against corruption. well done sir.
Things seems to fall apart between the two.
